CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's basketball team rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit but came up short against No. 15 Georgetown, dropping a 62-55 decision Friday in BIG EAST Conference action inside Fifth Third Arena.
Trailing 43-13 with 15:17 left in the game, Cincinnati (19-7, 7-6) clawed back into the game with a 20-7 run, closed out by 11-straight points from JaQuon Parker, to take a 51-50 lead with 6:53 remaining in the game.
From there, both team's offenses went cold, combining for two field goals over the final 6:25 with the Hoyas outscoring the Bearcats 12-4 to earn the 66-52 victory.
Georgetown (19-4, 9-3) won its seventh straight game to stay atop the BIG EAST standings while UC has lost three of four, shooting a combined 72-for-207 (.348) in those games.
Markel Starks hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 5:35 left and made five free throws in final minute, scoring a game-high 17 points. Otto Porter Jr. scored 16 points while playing in foul trouble and freshman D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera added 14.
Parker's 15 points led three Bearcats in double figures. Sean Kilpatrick had 12 and Cashmere Wright finished with 12.
Wright added three steals, putting him atop UC's career chart with 192 swipes. He passed David 'Puffy' Kennedy who tallied 189 steals from 1977-81.
The Hoyas had lost their last four against the Bearcats and hadn't won in Cincinnati since the 2006-07 season. They've won nine of their last 10 overall.
