Bearcats Drop 16-5 Decision to Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. -- Kylie Ramsland (Catonsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian Academy) scored two goals as the Bearcats dropped a 16-5 decision to the Oregon Ducks on Saturday. Cincinnati is now 1-1, while the Ducks improve to 1-1.

Megan Bell (Baltimore, Md./Hereford), Ashley Helmrath (Ellicott City, Md./Maryvale Preparatory) and Marissa Pierson (Sykesville, Md./Century) each netted one goal for UC. Freshman goalkeeper Meg Gulmi (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) faced 38 shots Saturday afternoon and made 13 saves.

Oregon was paced by Kate Cathell with four goals and two assists, while Shannon Propst added three goals.

The Ducks scored the first five goals of the afternoon, including three in the first five minutes of play. Bell scored Cincinnati's first goal on a shot from inside the circle (assist by Helmrath) with 13:02 to play in the first period, making the score 5-1 in favor of UO.

Oregon scored the next three goals, but with five seconds to play in the half, Ramsland scored on a free position shot to give the Bearcats their second goal of the day (8-2 UO).

UC scored first in the second half as Pierson nailed a free position shot, pulling the Bearcats within 8-3 (21:19). Oregon then scored three more goals in just under five minutes to take an 11-3 lead with 17:37 to play in the second half.

Helmrath gave the Bearcats another point with 16:15 to play, scoring a goal from the left wing on a Taylor Young (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) assist. UC would add one more goal by Ramsland with 4:27 to play, but the early deficit proved too much for the Bearcats to overcome as Oregon ended the game with a score of 16-5 and their first victory of the year.

Next up for the Bearcats is their home opener on Tuesday, March 5 at 3 p.m. at Nippert Stadium.
