CINCINNATI - Three members of the University of Cincinnati men's golf team shot a two over on the par-72 course on the second day of the USF Invitational at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla. The efforts moved the Bearcats up one position to 13th place in the 17-team tournament.
"We did some really good things today" said head coach Doug Martin. "The weather was much improved which helped. I am very happy for Michael Wolf, he has shown great progress this week."
Sophomore Michael Wolf (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller), senior David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) and freshman Emerson Newsome (Hoschton, Ga./Mill Creek) each shot two over par for a total of 74 shots on the day. Wolf continues to lead the team in overall score (74-74=148) to tie him for 26th place while Tepe sits in second with 150 strokes (76-74) for a share of 37th place. Sophomore Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) finished the second day tied for 52nd (77-75=152), Newsome is tied for 63rd (80-74=154) and freshman Blake Hamilton (Union, Ky./Ryle) is tied for 72nd (79-78=157).
Overall, Cincinnati sits in 13th place after moving up one spot from their 14th place finish after Day 1. The 297 strokes shot during the second round are nine fewer than during the opening round for a total score of 306-297=603.
North Carolina State continues its hold at the top spot in both the team and individual competition. The Wolfpack shot a tournament-best 280 strokes on Monday for a total score of 287-280=567, nine strokes under par, while Albin Chou leads the individual golfers with a 68-68=136.
The Bearcats will finish the USF Invitational on Tues., March 5.
