CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's golf team wrapped up its competition at the USF Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, finishing in 13th place at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla. Freshman Emerson Newsome (Hoschton, Ga./Mill Creek) rebounded from a team-high 80 strokes on Sunday to lead the Bearcats with a one-over par 73 on the final day.

Cincinnati placed 13th out of 17 teams, topping Eastern Michigan, Marquette, Wisconsin and DePaul in the final standings. The Bearcats finished with a total score of 919 (306-297-316) over the three day tournament, 10 strokes behind 12th place Rice. The score was 55 strokes over par.

Newsome led UC with 227 strokes (80-74-73), climbing 30 spots to finish tied for 47th in the competition after coming in in 77th place after Day 1. Sophomore Michael Wolf (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) finished two strokes back (74-74-81=229) to place tied for 52nd while sophomore Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) tied for 61st place (77-75-79=231). Senior David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) finished the competition with 233 strokes (76-74-83) for 65th place and freshman Blake Hamilton rounded out the Bearcats contenders in 88th place (79-78-88=245).

North Carolina State continued its stronghold on the top position, finishing the tournament four strokes under par (287-280-293=860). The Wolfpack held the top spot all three days of the tournament. Two other teams also finished below par, with No. 41 South Carolina finishing second with 861 strokes (287-283-291) and No. 21 Florida State coming in third with 863 strokes (293-286-284).

Individually (N.C. State's Albin Choi took home the top honors, finishing eight-under par (68-68-72=208) over the three days.

The Bearcats will be back in action March 15-17 as they compete in the Seminole Intercollegiate tournament in Tallahassee, Fla.
