Women's Golf Travels to Arizona for Clover Cup

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's golf team traveled to Mesa, Ariz., to participate in the Second Annual Clover Cup Tournament hosted by the University of Notre Dame. The three-day tournament will take place Fri., March 8 through Sun., March 10 at the Longbow Golf Club. The Bearcats are one of 16 teams competing in the tournament.

UC is coming off an 11th place finish at the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge in Miami Lakes, Fla., Feb., 25 and 26. The team shot a total of 939 (321-317-301=939), 75 strokes over par. After finishing in 15th place after both of the first two rounds, the Bearcats made an impressive jump up four spots after shooting the sixth-lowest score during the final round.

The Bearcats are led by junior Olivia Dose (Goteborg, Sweden/Goteborg Hogre Samskola) who finished the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge with a total of 233 strokes (80-78-75=233). Also leading Cincinnati will be senior Alex Carl (Union, Ky./Notre Dame Academty) who is averaging 76.7 strokes over 18 rounds of fall and spring play.

The Clover Cup tournament will feature 16 teams, including six teams ranked in the top 40 of the Golf Week rankings. No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 11 Texas Tech, No. 25 Notre Dame, No. 27 Northwestern, No. 35 SMU and No. 40 Mississippi will all headline the field. Also competing against Cincinnati are Colorado, Florida International, Georgetown, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Tulsa.

The field will also include five individual players ranked in the top 45, including the No. 2 and No. 3 ranked players in the nation. No. 2 Kimberly Kaufman of Texas Tech and No. 3 Lindsey Weaver of Notre Dame lead the pack while No. 20 Chirapat Jao-Javanil, No. 27 AC Tanguay and No. 45 Emily Collins, all from Oklahoma, will also be competing.

Each team will have 54 strokes of play, with 18 holes to be played on each of the three days. The Longbow Golf Course is a 72 par course spanning 6,209 yards. Action will begin at 8 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday and at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
