CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's golf team finished its first two rounds at the Clover Cup on Saturday in Mesa, Ariz. The Bearcats ended the day in 15th place with a total score of 632 (322-310). Junior Olivia Dose (Goteborg, Sweden/Goteborg Hogre Samskola) leads the team with a score of 147 (74-73) to tie her for 15th place.

"It was a tough day on the golf course today" said head coach Janet Carl. "We are still trying to get back into golf playing mode after out winter in Cincinnati. They are doing a lot of the right things, now they just need to be patient."

After shooting a tournament-high 322 strokes in the first round, the Bearcats rebounded to shoot 310 strokes in the second round. The 12-stroke improvement was the second-largest in the 16-team tournament. Both SMU and Florida International each recorded a 15-stroke improvement.

Senior Alex Carl (Union, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) finished ten strokes behind Dose (76-81=157) to tie for 64th place while senior Maria Roos (Uppsala, Sweden/Mississippi State) and sophomore Mackenzie Moir (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) each finished with 164 strokes (89-75 and 83-81, respectively). Junior Andrea Malek (Tibro, Sweden/Klippans Gymnasieskola) withdrew from the competition due to injury.

"Andrea Malek had to withdraw due to a hip injury" said Carl. "Playing with four is a distinct disadvantage but the team hung in there. We will not know about Andrea until tomorrow, but the other girls are doing a good job."

Oklahoma, the No. 3 team in the country, currently leads the field with 570 strokes (281-289), 13 strokes ahead of the closest competitor, No. 35 SMU (299-284=583).

Individually, SMU's Jenny Haglund is ahead of the pack with a six-under par (71-67=138) after jumping from fourth place after round No. 1. Hana Lee of Northwestern sits in second place with 139 strokes (66-73). A total of 11 golfers are either under par or at even par heading into round No. 3.

Competition will begin again at 8 a.m. on Sun., March 10 with all players beginning in a shotgun start.
