The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics welcomed over 230 youth cheerleaders and dancers and over 700 parents and coaches to its Cheer & Dance Team Day this past Saturday, March 9th in Fifth Third Arena. Cheerleaders and dancers, ages 4 - 18, from across the Cincinnati area, Kentucky, Tennessee and even Alabama performed with the UC cheerleaders and dancers during halftime of the basketball game against South Florida.
The day started off with a two hour clinic in the Armory Field House and Lindner Center Practice gym where the girls practiced the halftime routine they were required to learn prior to the event. The cheerleaders and dancers were separated into three age groups where they reviewed the routine and were lined up for the performance. Parents, coaches, cheerleaders and dancers all enjoyed the atmosphere of the day and were excited to be part of such a fun event.
"My daughter, Parker, had such a great time at Cheer and Dance Team Day this past weekend. The cheerleaders and the dancers were so friendly and helpful and she loved every minute of it! Seeing her having so much fun performing was a great feeling and I and Parker cannot wait for the next UC Cheer and Dance Team Day," said Megan Straub, Cheer Mom.
After the game started, all of the cheerleaders and dancers made their way down to the court for the halftime performance. The UC cheerleaders and dancers helped line the girls up and everyone made their way onto the court. Fans helped cheer on the girls as they performed their special halftime routine.
"You could tell how much the crowd enjoyed the performance at halftime by these young ladies," said Director of Marketing & Strategic Communications, Jaime Juenger. "It was awesome to see over 230 girls cover the entire basketball court performing with our spirit squads. For many, it was their first time performing on a college basketball court! It was a fun day for everyone and we look forward to the next Cheer and Dance Team Day in September."
The University of Cincinnati has announced the second annual football Cheer and Dance Team Day for September 14th when the Bearcats football team takes on Northwestern State in Nippert Stadium.
