CINCINNATI - Thirteen former University of Cincinnati football players worked out Wednesday for a contingent of NFL scouts on the Bearcats' annual NFL Pro Timing Day in the Richard E. Lindner Center and Sheakley Athletics Center.
The workout started in the weight room where players were measured and weighed before taking part in the vertical and broad jumps and bench press.
DE Walter Stewart posted the best numbers in the broad jump (10-3) and vertical jump (37.5). It was Stewart's first chance to show his stuff for the scouts as he was denied the opportunity to work out at the NFL Combine after being red-flagged during by the medical staff. Stewart missed all but five games during the 2012 season after a congential defect was discovered in the C-1 arch in his neck. He still hopes to be medically cleared to continue his career in the NFL.
DT John Williams topped the bench press chart, hoisting the 225 pound bar 30 times.
Following the bench press, the workout moved out the SAC bubble where the 40-yard dash was first on the agenda, followed by the 20- and 60-yard shuttles and 3-cone drill. Individual position drills closed out the day.
DB Camerron Cheatham (4.47) had the lowest unofficial 40-yard dash times of the day. RB George Winn improved upon his NFL Combine time with a pair of unofficial 4.53 efforts.
Cheatham (4.29), RB George Winn (4.33) and WR Danny Milligan (4.34) had the top times in the short 20-yard shuttle while Cheatham (11.44) earned top marks in the long 60-yard shuttle.
In the 3-cone drill, Cheatham (6.70) and LB Maalik Bomar (6.94) unofficially broke the 7-second barrier.
DB Dominique Battle, RB Adam Fearing, OL Sean Hooey and DB Malcolm Murray also took part in the drills, posting solid times of their own.
DB Drew Frey and WR Damon Julian did not work out due to injuries. TE Travis Kelce is still recovering from off-season surgery and will work out for the scouts on April 4, 2013.
WR Kenbrell Thompkins participated in position drills only after posting his drill numbers at the NFL Combine earlier this month.
Former Bearcats Ben Guidugli and Reuben Haley were among a group of non-UC seniors that also took part in the workout. Guidugli spent the 2011 season with the St. Louis Rams while Haley had a free-agent tryout with the Cincinnati Bengals after exhasting his eligibility a year ago.
The 2013 NFL Draft is scheduled to run from Thursday, April 25 to Saturday, April 27, 2013.
