CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's golf team improved its team score by 10 strokes during the second round of the Seminole Intercollegiate tournament in Tallahassee, Fla., at the Southwood Golf Course. The Bearcats hold a score of 602 (306-296) after two rounds. The 10-stroke difference was the largest improvement amongst the 11-team field and bumped the Bearcats up into 10th place.
Cincinnati was led by freshman Blake Hamilton (Union, Ky./Ryle) who sits in a tie for 39th place with 148 strokes (75-73). Senior David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) made a seven-stroke improvement, shooting a 72 after scoring 79 in the first round. Tepe has a total score of 151 to place him in a tie for 49th. Sophomore Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) sits in a tie for 52nd place (74-79=153) while freshman Emerson Newsome (Hoschton, Ga./Mill Creek) is tied for 55th place (78-76=154) and sophomore Michael Wolf (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) is tied for 59th place (81-75=156).
No. 20 Florida State leads the tournament with a score of 561 (277-284), 15 strokes under par. No. 43 Mississippi State (278-284=562), No. 48 Coastal Carolina (280-286=566), Ohio State (287-283=570) and South Florida (282-289=571) round out the top five teams.
Individually, Sebastian Soderberg of Coastal Carolina and No. 5 Daniel Berger of Florida State share the top spot with a score of 136, eight strokes under par.
The Bearcats will play the final round of the Seminole Intercollegiate on Sun., March 17. All five UC participants will tee off between 8:20 and 9:04 a.m.
