TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of Cincinnati baseball team's BIG EAST Conference opener against South Florida on Friday evening has been postponed until 2:30 p.m. ET Saturday.
Play will resume at USF Baseball Stadium with no score heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.
Cincinnati (7-10) starter, redshirt freshman RHP Connor Walsh was off to a strong start, tossing three scoreless innings and allowing just one run.
USF starter Jimmy Herget pitched out of a jam in the top of the fourth inning as the Bearcats stranded runners on second and third before lightning, followed by heavy rain, forced a 1-hour, 4-minute delay before the game was called until Saturday.
Game 2 of the series will begin approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of Game 1.
The series finale is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
