Cincinnati- Long- time UC fan and donor John Hermanies passed away on March 16 at his home in East Walnut Hills. Hermanies was one of the University of Cincinnati's biggest supporters over the last 40 years, missing only a handful of games. Hermanies was also a member of UC's Board of Trustees form 1977-92 and helped raise over 300 million dollars during a capital campaign in the early 1990's.
In 1997, he became a member of UC's prestigious Order of the Black Blazer and in 2000 Nippert Stadium's press box was named the John and Dorothy Hermanies Press Box in honor of Hermanies and his wife.
In 2003, Hermanies donated 1.5 million dollars to help fund the Richard E. Lindner Varsity Village which houses UC's Olympic sports facilities.
Hermanies grew up in Mariemont, Ohio where he graduated from Terrace Park High School and four years later earned his bachelor's degree from Penn State University. After Penn State he served in the U.S. Marine Corps before earning his law degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1948. He became an assistant attorney general for Ohio in 1951 and held that position through 1957. He went on to practice law in Cincinnati for over 40 years before retiring in 1999.
