CINCINNATI- Marissa Pierson recorded four goals and three assists to lead the Cincinnati women's lacrosse team (6-4) to a 14-5 victory over the Marquette Golden Eagles (2-9) Friday night at the Sheakley Athletics Center. The Bearcats earned their sixth win of the season, second most in program history, in front of a spirited crowd of 237. The win also preserves the Bearcats' undefeated home record (5-0).
Taylor Young scored the game's first goal on a free-position shot nearly five minutes into play to give UC an early 1-0 lead. The Golden Eagles nailed back-to-back goals, one each from Nicole Gleason and Claire Costanza, to give Marquette a lead 2-1 with just under 15 minutes to play in the first period.
Two minutes later, Kylie Ramsland scored to tie the game, igniting the Bearcat offense. Cincinnati scored six straight goals to end the half. The Bearcats outshot the Golden Eagles 16-8 in the first half. Going into halftime, Cincinnati led Marquette 7-2.
The Bearcats' onslaught continued in the second half as they scored the first four goals of the period. Kenzie Brown ended the drought for the Golden Eagles, but the Bearcat lead quickly expanded to 11-3. The Golden Eagles would score three of the next four goals, but the Bearcats scored twice in the final 1:06 to cap off their fifth home victory.
Pierson led UC in scoring with four goals off the bench. She had career-highs in assists with three assists and total points with seven. Megan Bell, Courtney Curtis, Katie Kiriazoglou and Ramsland notched two goals each for the Bearcats, while Young and Sarah Del Bene each netted one goal. Goalkeeper Meg Gulmi recorded 13 saves, tying her career high.
Cincinnati scored on 6-of-11 free-position shots and recorded seven assists on 14 goals. Seven Bearcats tallied goals, five of whom scored more than once.
Up next for the Bearcats is a BIG EAST battle against No. 6/7 Notre Dame. First draw is set for 1 p.m. ET Sunday, April 7 at the Sheakley Athletics Center.
