CINCINNATI - Transfer quarterback Gunner Kiel (Columbus, Ind./East/Notre Dame) has enrolled at the University of Cincinnati and will join the football team for the 2013 season, Head Coach Tommy Tuberville announced Friday.

Kiel is scheduled to begin classes at Cincinnati on May 6, 2013.

"We are very excited Gunner has decided to enroll at UC," Tuberville said. "He's a great talent and an even better person. He comes from a great family with some strong quarterback lineage. Our quarterbacks coach Darin Hinshaw has developed an outstanding relationship with Gunner. We are looking forward to getting him here and seeing what the future holds."

Kiel, a 6-4, 210 pound signal caller, was rated as No. 1 prep quarterback in the nation by 247Sports.com, Rivals.com and Scout.com while in high school at Columbus East (Ind.). He will sit out the 2013 season due to NCAA transfer regulations and have three years of eligibility remaining in 2014.

"Cincinnati was the best fit for me because the relationship I have with coach (Darin) Hinshaw is like nothing else," Kiel told Joe Schad from ESPN. "He is a great overall person and is someone I know I can get coached by. The group of guys I'm going to be around is second to none. I love where (Cincinnati) is heading and the future is bright."

Kiel passed for 2,517 yards and 27 touchdowns, running almost 500 yards with 11 TDs in leading Columbus East to a 12-2 record and a berth in the state semifinals as a senior. He was named the 2011 Indiana Mr. Football by the Indianapolis Star.
