CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati celebrates its Spring Commencement during two ceremonies Saturday in Fifth Third Arena and among those graduates are 55 student-athletes.
"Graduation is the most exciting day of the year," said UC Director of Athletics Whit Babcock. "It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes and the determination they have to be successful. Each of them has made UC a better place and we celebrate with them on this special day."
One week after his investiture, UC President Santa Ono leads the Saturday ceremonies. The first ceremony takes place at 9 a.m. and includes the College of Allied Health Sciences; Carl H. Lindner College of Business; College-Conservatory of Music (CCM); College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP); College of Nursing; and UC Blue Ash College. The afternoon ceremony begins at 2 p.m. and recognizes graduates from the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH); College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS); McMicken College of Arts and Sciences (A&S); and UC Clermont College.
Friends and family unable to attend graduation can view a live telecast of Saturday's events at the Family Friendly Zone, located at the Russell C. Meyers Alumni Center, or online.
"Our staff is extremely proud of our graduating student-athletes," said Joe Luckey, who serves as senior associate athletics director for the Office of Student-Athlete Support Services, the department responsible for providing academic support to UC's student-athletes. "We have seen these students grow tremendously as they progressed from recruits to graduates, and we are excited for each of them to pursue the next phases of their lives."
Graduation caps off a year in which nearly 60 percent of UC's student-athletes achieved a fall semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Eighteen student-athletes achieved a 4.0 and 153 garnered a 3.4 fall semester GPA.
Also graduating Saturday is former men's swimming and diving student-athlete Nate Kramer, whose collegiate career was cut short due to a battle with leukemia.
