CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-21) to SMU on Sunday afternoon in Dallas, Texas. Freshman Samantha Schrenker (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) paced the Cincinnati offense with seven kills and a .308 hitting percentage.

The Bearcats recorded 26 kills throughout the match. In addition to Schrenker's seven, freshman Mallory Blauser (Round Rock, Texas/Round Rock Christian Academy) recorded six while sophomore Morgan Allred (Carrolton, Texas/Hebron) and freshman Breanna Barksdale both hit five.

Defensively, Allred produced a match-high 14 digs to help UC edge SMU 50-43 in digs. Barksdale also recorded five blocks marking the fourth time this season she has hit the five-block milestone.

SMU opened the match with strong hitting, earning a match-high .281 hitting percentage in the first set compared to .062 for Cincinnati. Long Mustang scoring runs plagued the Bearcats throughout the match, but especially in the first game where UC allowed scoring runs of at least four points on four separate occasions, including 10 straight points to take a 23-10 lead. Kills by Allred, Blauser and redshirt freshman Alison Kimmel (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) allowed Cincinnati to get within 23-13, but SMU held on to win the first game 25-15.

In the third set, the Bearcats battled from a 20-13 deficit to score six straight points and get within a point at 20-19. Schrenker had two kills during the run and SMU recorded three errors to help UC build momentum, but the Mustangs responded and grabbed a 25-21 victory and win the match 3-0.

Cincinnati will return home for a four-match homestand beginning on Thurs. Oct. 10 when they host UCF at 7 p.m. in Fifth Third Arena.
