CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-15) decision to the University of Louisville on Friday evening at Fifth Third Arena. The match was part of the Dig Pink campaign for the Bearcats, raising money and awareness for breast cancer research.
The Bearcats wore pink jerseys that will be auctioned off following the conclusion of the next match vs. Xavier on Tuesday with proceeds going to the Dig Pink campaign. Fans interested in bidding on a jersey can do so at the match. Donations to the campaign can also be made at https://www.side-out.org/cb/campaigns/campaign/6997.

Collectively, the Bearcats hit 28 kills and had 39 digs. UC out-blocked UofL 6-1 on the night, with freshmen Breanna Barksdale (Chula Vista, Calif./Eastlake) and Mallory Blauser (Round Rock, Texas/Round Rock) leading the way with four apiece.
Cincinnati held a lead for the majority of the second set, but Louisville rallied at the end to earn a 25-22 win and pull ahead 2-0 in the match. The Bearcats opened the second set on fire, racing to a 4-0 lead following three straight blocks and was either tied or held a lead for a long stretch of the game. UC climbed to a three-point lead at 19-16, but could not withstand the UofL pressure and gave up four consecutive points to the Cardinals to fall behind 20-19. A kill by Louisville's Emily Juhl, one of her six for the game, ended the set at 25-22. Sophomore Morgan Allred (Carrolton, Texas/Hebron) and Blauser each hit three kills in the set while Green collected eight digs.
In the final set, the Cardinals pulled away late and won the game 25-15. A five-point run from Louisville put the visitors ahead 19-11 and the Bearcats would get no closer. Hill had five kills in the game while Conor registered eight assists.
Louisville dominated its way to a 25-13 first-set victory over Cincinnati. Cincinnati used a kill by sophomore Morgan Allred (Carrolton, Texas/Hebron) to tie the score at 3-3, but the Cardinals employed a 9-1 scoring run to take an 18-6 lead and never looked back. Cincinnati out-blocked Louisville 1-0 while freshman Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) led the Bearcats with three kills and a .286 hitting percentage.
The Bearcats will conclude their homestand on Tuesday, Oct. 22 when they host crosstown rival Xavier at 7 p.m. in Fifth Third Arena. The match will conclude the Dig Pink campaign for Cincinnati and the pink jerseys worn by the Bearcats during the match will be auctioned off with proceeds going towards breast cancer research.
