CINCINNATI -Alan Rovira's goal in the 80th minute gave the University of Cincinnati men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Belmont and gave head coach Hylton Dayes his 200th career victory.
The Bearcats (5-9-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute when Will Diebold (Coppell, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) dribbled into the box and beat Bruin keeper Grayson Rector. The lead would hold up over the next 33 minutes until Belmont (4-7-2) got the equalizer.
Tyler Vieth played it in to Luca Schioppa, who ripped a shot that was saved by UC keeper Alex Gill (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek). Gill was unable to hold on to the ball and A.J. Arnold was there to put it away and tie the match.
That set the stage for Rovira (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley/Tyler JC). The junior spotted the ball just outside the box, turned and fired, sending it just above the hands of Rector and just beneath the cross bar for the gamewinner.
For the match, shots were even at 11 apiece, while the Bruins had a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. Gill made four saves to earn the victory, while Rector made one save while taking the loss.
Next up for the Bearcats is a visit from No. 7/10 Louisville in the home finale for 2013. The match is set for 7:00 p.m.
