MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team pulled ahead early, but dropped a 3-1 (24-26, 25-22, 25-23, 25-16) decision to the University of Memphis on Friday night in Memphis, Tenn. Sophomore Morgan Allred (Carrolton, Texas/Hebron) recorded her third consecutive double-double with a match-high 15 kills and 12 digs to lead the Bearcats.

Collectively, Cincinnati hit 50 kills with 49 assists. Defensively, the team earned 66 digs and out-blocked Memphis 8.0 to 6.0.

In addition to Allred's 15 kills, freshman Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) had 13 kills for the Bearcats. Junior Madi Lang (Commerce Township, Mich./Florida Atlantic) led the way with 39 assists and freshman Shelby Green (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs) collected 18 digs for her seventh straight match with double-digit dig numbers.

Cincinnati used a run of seven consecutive points late in the first set to come from down 23-17 to win the game 26-14. When the home team had taken a six-point lead, the Bearcats got a block by freshman Samantha Schrenker (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) and junior Me'Ashah Nicholson (Shiloh, Ill./Belleville Althoff) and a service ace by Schrenker to pull to within 23-19 and force a Memphis timeout. Out of the break, two errors by the Tigers brought the Bearcats to within 23-21 and forced UM into its second timeout of the game. Cincinnati turned up the pressure even more with a block by Allred and a kill apiece by Nicholson and Allred to cap the scoring run and put UC ahead by a score of 24-23. After a kill by Memphis, two additional Tiger errors gave the Bearcats the 26-24 victory.

Memphis got a point back in the second game with a 25-22 victory to tie the match at 1-1. The Tigers possessed a 19-14 lead before the Bearcats attempted another late game comeback. A UM error, two kills by Hill and an ace by Lang brought Cincinnati within 19-18, but the Tigers were able to hold on to a 25-22 victory. Lang offered up 11 assists for UC in the set while Hill threw down five kills.

Memphis pulled out another close set victory in the third, winning 25-23. The Bearcats fought to even the score at 23-all until two straight UC attacking errors gave the Tigers the win. Lang recorded 15 assists and sophomore Amelia Wegman (Aurora, Ill./Rosary) had five kills.

Cincinnati fell behind early in the fourth game and could not regain control, falling 25-16 and ending the match 3-1 in favor of the Tigers. Memphis scored six of the first eight points to set the tone for the game and continued to grow the lead to the final score of 25-16.
