CINCINNATI -Freshman Jackie Keire set a pair of pool records as the University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving teams both fell to Western Kentucky at the Keating Aquatics Center on Saturday, Nov. 9. The women fell by a score of 195-102, while the men were defeated, 195-101.

WOMEN'S EVENTS

Keire highlighted the day for the Bearcats, scoring victories and pool records in both the 100 and 200 freestyle. She touched the wall in 49.64 in the 100, besting a six-year old pool record. Keire finished the 200 free in 1:47.46, taking down a seven-year old Keating record.

Action on the women's side began with a third place finish by Taylor Myszka in the 1,000 free. That was followed by Keire's victory in the 200 free.

The 100 backstroke followed with UC's Jessica Piper being edged by WKU's Allie Duff. Both Duff and Piper were faster than the pool record, previously held by UC's Liz Hansson.

The 100 breaststroke saw Cincinnati's Samime Wheeler and Helena Pikhartova finish second and third, respectively. The next strong Bearcat performances came in teh 200 backstroke. Piper earned a second place finish behind the Hilltoppers' Duff, who posted a pool record. Miranda Hampton placed third in the event for UC.

Pikhartova earned another solid finish in the 200 breast, finishing second. The 500 freestyle saw Hope Andrews also place second, before Iuliia Fedoreeva earned another second place finish in the 100 fly.

Piper and Wheeler capped the individual action with second and third place finishes in the 200 IM. The Bearcats placed second in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.47

MEN'S EVENTS

Joey Ferreri had one of the first top performances of the day for the Bearcats, finishing second in the 1,000 free. That was followed by Tommy Easley earning a third-place finish in the 200 free.

Donovan Kearns and Awse Ma'aya finished second and third in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing behind WKU's Seth Musser who was less than a second off the pool record.

The 100 free saw another strong UC performance, as Michael Palleros won in 47.02, followed by D.J. Waite in 47.27.

Kearns had another solid performance in the 200 back, placing third. Nik Balmer did the same in the 200 breaststroke.

DIVING

Chloe Merriss was the top UC performer on the one-meter board, scoring 221.25. She was also the top Bearcat on the three-meter, scoring 197.47.

Michael Arnold placed second on the one-meter, with a score of 224.25. Bill Magill was third with a total of 222.22. Jimmy McMahon was second on the three-meter at 203.47.

NEXT MEET

The Bearcats will travel to the Pittsburgh Invitational, where they'll take on the host Panthers, Fairmont State and West Virginia Wesleyan, as well as the California (Pa.) women, St. Bonaventure men and the Clemson divers.
