CINCINNATI- The University of Cincinnati men's basketball team held visiting NC State to 22 points in the second half on the strength of a tough defensive effort to move to a 68-57 win, Tuesday in Global Sports Shootout action inside Fifth Third Arena.

Cincinnati (2-0) held NC State (1-1) to a 26.7 (8-for-30) shooting performance in the second half while blocking nine shots and forcing eight turnovers. The Wolfpack shot 32.8 percent (19-of-58) for the game, 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from behind the arc and 57 percent (12-of-21) from the free-throw line.

The Bearcats pounded the ball inside, holding a 36-22 advantage in the paint and turned 17 offensive rebounds into 16 points.

Sean Kilpatrick (Yonkers, N.Y./Notre Dame Prep) led three teammates in double figures, pouring in a game high 22 points. Kilpatrick drained three triples and was 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. He also had three assists and a pair of steals.

Justin Jackson (Cocoa Beach, Fla./Arlington Country Day) scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, tallying his first career double-double. The senior also swatted a game-high four shots. Titus Rubles (Dallas, Texas/Blinn College) totaled 14 points and added seven rebounds. Jermaine Lawrence (Springfield Gardens, N.Y./Pope John XXIII) finished with a career high eight rebounds.

The game was a see-saw battle throughout, featuring eight lead changes and 12 ties. The score was knotted at 35 at the break and a pair of Kilpatrick free throws with 10:19 left in the game squared things up at 48 points apiece.

From there, Kilpatrick drained a three with 9:45 remaining that sent UC on a 17-9 run to end the game with Kilpatrick ringing up nine points over the last 8:40.

NC State would get no closer than four at 57-53 UC with 5:12 left. The Bearcats turned up the defensive pressure and held the Wolfpack to four points over the final five minutes, cruising to the 11-point win.

T.J. Warren and Ralston Turner led the Wolfpack with 13 points apiece with Warren adding 10 boards. Desmond Lee also hit double digits, finishing with 10.

UC continues action in the four-game Global Sports Shootout, taking on Appalachian State on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. ET inside Fifth Third Arena.
