The University of Cincinnati men's and women's cross country teams had strong showing Friday afternoon at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Madison, Wis. The men's team cracked the top 15 to claim 13th place, while the women came in 29th, respectively.
Similar to the American Athletic Conference Championships, the senior class led the way for the men's side. Evan Baum was the Bearcats' top finisher placing 45th out of 207 runners with a personal-best time of 31:36. About 50 seconds later fellow seniors Jeffrey Griffiths and Oliver Book finished 78th and 80th, respectively. Griffiths' time of 32:25 is also a personal best.
For the first time this season, the men ran a 10,000-meter race.
Ian Silver and Eric Hauser rounded out UC's five scoring runners as they each just missed finishing inside the top 100.
On the women's side, Ashley Earman paced the Bearcats with a 112th-place finish. The junior ran a time of 22:42, and classmate Lauren Goodwin finished on her heals for 129th and a personal-best time of 22:57.
Anne Pace, Maggie Bischoff and Amber McAlpine were Cincinnati's other scoring runners with each finishing within a span of 20 seconds. Bischoff's time of 24:06 is a career-best for the sophomore.
Friday's race caps off the Bearcats' 2013 cross country season. The men's team graduates four runners, while the women's team loses no one.
Many members of the team will hop right into the indoor season, which begins Dec. 6 with the Bearcats' Intrasquad Meet in the Armory Fieldhouse.
