CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's basketball team used a second-half surge to earn an 86-50 win over USC Upstate, Tuesday inside Fifth Third Arena.

The Bearcats (7-0) closed out their seven-game homestand to open the season with a perfect record.

Cincinnati hit a season-high 13 three pointers, going 13-of-26 (.500) from behind the arc. Sean Kilpatrick (Yonkers, N.Y./Notre Dame Prep) drained a season-high six triples, on his way to a game-high 22 points. With his seventh double-figure tally of the season, Kilpatrick moved into 12th place on UC's all-time scoring list with 1,582 points. He also dished out a career best seven assists.

USC Upstate (5-4) was held to 16 points in the second half and was outscored 54-18 after the game was knotted up at 32 apiece with 3:28 left in the opening 20 minutes.

UC's defense was smothering, holding the Spartans to a .261 shooting percentage (6-for-23) in the second half, forcing 22 turnovers for the game and converting them into 33 points. Upstate was held to seven points in the first 16 minutes of the second half.

Ge'Lawn Guyn (Lexington, Ky./South Kent Prep) and Troy Caupain (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) both set career highs with 15 points apiece. Caupain had a career-high five assists.

Titus Rubles (Dallas, Texas/Blinn College) had a team-high seven rebounds while Kevin Johnson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) set a career mark with nine points.

UC starts a three-game road swing this weekend, heading to New Mexico on Saturday, facing Xavier at U.S. Bank Arena on Dec. 14 and squaring off against Pittsburgh in the Jimmy V. Classic in Madison Square Garden on Dec. 17.

The contest against New Mexico starts at 4:05 p.m. ET and will be broadcast by CBS Sports Network and 700 WLW.
