CINCINNATI — JaQuon Parker and Sean Kilpatrick each scored a game-high 19 points to lead the University of Cincinnati men's basketball team to a 68-50 dismantling of Villanova University on Tuesday evening at Fifth Third Arena.
Parker and Kilpatrick combined to shoot 7 of 10 from 3-point range as Cincinnati hit a dozen shots from behind the arc; its most since the third game of the season on Nov. 18 against North Carolina A&T. Cashmere Wright was the third Bearcat in double-digits after the senior point guard tallied 11 points.
Kilpatrick led UC's rebounding efforts after pulling down eight rebounds, which tied for the game high with Villanova sophomore forward JayVaughn Pinkston, who led the Wildcats in scoring with 12 points.
Leading by nine points, Cincinnati made five 3-pointers as it went on a 15-6 run over a span of 6:15 to take its largest lead of the game at 59-41.
UC closed out the game with a 7-2 run on four free throws and a trey by Parker to earn its 19th win of the season.
The Bearcats went into halftime with a 32-29 lead after Kilpatrick led all scorers with 10 first-half points. Pinkston came off the bench and scored eight points in the first half.
Rebounds were dead even 15-15, but UC claimed the lead after shooting 6 of 16 from 3-point range in the first half.
The game started sluggish as the score was tied 12-12 with nearly 12 minutes into the game before Cincinnati took an 11-4 run over a span of 3:24 to go ahead 23-16.
UC built its lead to as high as eight points with 3:08 left before Villanova ended the first period by outscoring the Bearcats 11-6.
Cincinnati upped its lead to 44-33 at the 13:00 mark after going on a 10-2 run that featured 3-point plays from Parker and Kilpatrick.
After Villanova cut the lead to single digits, UC got 3-point baskets from Kilpatrick, Sanders and Wright for a 9-2 run that gave the Bearcats a 16-point lead at the 8:25 mark.
Cincinnati returns to action Friday when the 15th-ranked Georgetown Hoyas come to Fifth Third Arena for a 9 p.m. tip off in a nationally televised BIG EAST matchup on ESPN.
