GAMBIER, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams wrapped up competition at the Kenyon Winter Invitational, competing with Ohio State, Oakland, Kenyon and Ashland. The women's squad finished second behind the 19th-ranked Buckeyes, edging Oakland, Kenyon and Ashland. The men placed fourth behind first-place Ohio State, Oakland and Kenyon.

Freshman freestyler Jackie Keire was again one of the leaders for the Bearcats. The four-time American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week opened up with a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle, finishing in 4:53.93. The event was won by OSU's Alex Norris in a pool record 4:48.51. Keire also earned a runner-up finish to Norris in the 200 free. Norris set another pool record (1:48.33) to edge Keire's time of 1:50.24.
Keire also placed third in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 51.40, less than a second behind Ohio State's Michelle Williams and Annie Jongekrijg. Those three were also quickest in the 50 freestyle, with Keire again coming in third with a mark of 23.53.
Other top finishers for UC on the day included Iuliia Fedoreeva placing fifth in the 200 butterfly (2:09.21) and ninth in the 100 butterfly (58.52), while Sammie Wheeler earned an eighth place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.19). Andrea Bartel had a solid day in medley events, placing seventh in the 400 IM (4:34.95) and ninth in the 200 IM (2:11.71). Hope Andrews posted a sixth place finish in the 1,000 freestyle (10:29.06), Jessica Piper finished eighth in the 200 backstroke (2:07.02) and Helena Pikhartova finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.08).
Chloe Merris led the UC divers on both the one- and three-meter boards. She placed third at both heights, with a three-meter score of 213.55 and a one-meter score of 190.40.

Joe Bott earned the first top-10 finish of the day for the Bearcat men, finishing ninth in the 500 freestyle (4:42.19). Bott also had a solid fifth-place time of 9:46.59 in the 1,000 freestyle. Connor Davis was the top finisher in the 200 freestyle with a ninth-place mark of 1:43.92.
Awse Ma'aya earned a 10th-place finish in the 100 butterfly, touching in 52.07. The 200 fly saw Joey Ferreri and Hunter Pasek finish sixth and seventh, respectively. Ferreri finished in 1:56.23, followed by Pasek in 1:56.42.
Trenton Harper recorded a 10th-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 59.19. Harper also had UC's top 200 breaststroke time in 2:10.43.
The men had a solid day on the diving board, with Jimmy McMahon taking home first-place points on the three-meter board with a score of 237.50. Bill Magill was the top Bearcat on the one-meter board, placing third with a score of 231.00
Next Meet
The Bearcats return home for senior day and their Keating Aquatic Center finale for the 2013-14 campaign on Saturday, Jan. 25, versus Wright State. Diving is set to begin at 11:00 a.m., with swimming at 1:00 p.m. Head Coach Monty Hopkins and the program will honor senior team members between the diving and swimming portions of the meet.
