CINCINNATI -Taylor Young's four goals paced the Bearcats in their fifth-straight victory, a 14-5 decision over Detroit, on Sunday at Gettler Stadium. Cincinnati improved to 6-3 entering BIG EAST Conference play.

In addition to the four goals from Young (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore), Cincinnati got a hat trick from Torrie Zarella (Great Falls, Va./Langley) and a pair of goals each from Elaina Enich (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) and Courtney Curtis (Mason, Ohio/William Mason).

Ashley Helmrath (Elllicott City, Md./Maryvale Prep) scored a goal and three assists, while Sarah Del Bene (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) registered a goal and an assist. Enich also added an assist to her pair of goals.

Detroit (1-7) was led by two scores from Tessa Keuler, who also scored an assist. Kelsi Pritchard, Vittoria Wallace and Kylie Birney each scored once for the Titans.

UDM netted the first goal of the game less than a minute in when Wallace scored on a feed from Keuler. Young responded with a free position goal, followed by an unassisted goal, to put UC up for good. Zarella scored from Del Bene to make it 3-1 just under 10 minutes into the game.

The teams then traded goal before Del Bene netted the final goal of the first half to give Cincinnati a 6-3 lead at the break.

Young again sparked the Bearcats at the start of the second half, scoring the first two goals to build an 8-3 lead. After Pritchard scored for Detroit to cut it to 8-4, Cincinnati found another gear.

Enich scored twice to open a 6-0 Cincinnati run. She was followed by Zarella, Helmrath, Curtis and Zarella again to open up a 14-4 lead. Keuler scored with 1:42 left to provide the final margin of 14-5.

For the game, the Bearcats held a 24-14 advantage in shots and a 22-13 edge in ground balls. Cincinnati also converted all five free position attempts.

Defensively, UC caused 10 turnovers on the day, paced by three from Megan Knoop (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington). Kesley Conway (Laurel, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and Skylar DeLemos (Cranbury, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) each caused a pair of turnovers. Meg Gulmi (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) made four saves to earn her sixth victory of the season in the cage.

The Bearcats begin BIG EAST Conference play on Friday, March 28, at Marquette. Opening draw with the Golden Eagles is set for 6:00 p.m. CT/7:00 p.m. ET. Cincinnati returns home for the final non-conference game of the season on Sunday, March 30, when Oregon visits Gettler Stadium for a Noon showdown.
