PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -The University of Cincinnati women's lacrosse team fell in its final road contest of the season, 19-3, at Temple on Sunday afternoon.
The Bearcats (8-6, 0-4 BIG EAST) received goals from Dani Tunnell (Frederick, Md./Oakdale), Courtney Curtis (Mason, Ohio/William Mason) and Michelle Platz (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula). Taylor Young (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) had an assist for UC.
The host Owls (5-8, 2-2 BIG EAST) were led by two goals apiece from Rachel Schwab, Nicole Tiernan, Morgan Glassford, Summer Jaros and Rachel Barile. Carly DeMato had a pair of assists for Temple.
The Owls recorded the first three scores of the game over the opening 10 minutes before Curtis scored on a feed from Young to make it 3-1 with 19:26 to play in the first half. Unfortunately for UC, that would be their only score of the opening half as the Owls closed the frame on a 5-0 run to take a 9-1 lead into the break.
The teams traded the first four goals of the second half, with UC's scored from Tunnell and Platz, making the score 10-3 with 25:52 left in the contest. The Owls then found another gear, closing out the game on a 9-0 to provide the final margin of 19-3.
Meg Gulmi (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) made seven saves in the effort for UC in taking the loss. Temple's Jaqi Kakalecik recorded eight saves to earn the victory.
The Bearcats return home to the Sheakley Athletics Center for a pair of games next weekend. Rutgers visits on Thursday, April 17, for a 6:00 p.m. showdown, followed by UConn for a Noon contest on Saturday, April 19.
