CINCINNATI - After falling behind 1-0, the University of Cincinnati volleyball team won three straight sets to beat Charleston Southern 3-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-18, 25-23) on Friday night from Fifth Third Arena. The match was the first of three for the Bearcats in the UC Invitational.
The Bearcats responded from the first game with a 25-12 pounding of the Buccaneers in the second.
A solo block by senior Me'Ashah Nicholson (Shiloh, Ill./Belleville Althoff) served as the final point for the Bearcats in the fourth.

- With the win, Cincinnati improves to 7-3 on the season while Charleston Southern falls to 5-8.
- The Bearcats have now won five straight matches spanning three separate weekends. It is the longest win streak for Cincinnati since winning 12 consecutive matches in 2011.
- Nicholson closed her strong performance with nine kills and eight blocks, the latter being a season high for any Bearcats player.
- Redshirt junior Caitlin Ogletree (Montgomery, Texas/Montgomery) recorded a career-high 43 assists and a career-high five service aces to lead the Bearcats.
- Cincinnati recorded nine service aces, a season high for the team.
- Junior Emma Roberson (Brooks, Ky./Evansville) recorded 14 kills and has produced double-digit kills in four consecutive matches.
- Junior Morgan Allred (Carrolton, Texas/Hebron) notched a team-high 17 kills and has produced double-digit kills in three consecutive matches.
- Senior Jamie Netisingha (Westmont, Ill./Hinsdale Central) had 20 digs. She has recorded double-digit digs in every match this season for the Bearcats.
// Set Breakdown
Set 1: CSU 25, UC 23
- Ogletree started off the match with a service ace to put UC ahead 1-0.
- Head Coach Molly Alvey called a timeout after the Buccaneers jumped out to an 8-4 lead following three straight points on two kills and a UC attacking error.
- The Bearcats climbed to within 20-18 with back-to-back kills by Allred.
- Cincinnati fought off two set points for Charleston Southern before finally falling 25-23.
Set 2: UC 25, CSU 12
- Allred tallied three kills to lead her team to an early 9-5 lead.
- The Bearcats' lead expanded to 17-7 after a four-point run with two kills by sophomore Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) and two CSU errors.
- The Bearcats closed their dominant game with a kill by Roberson to win 25-12.
- Hill had five kills in the set while Allred added four.
- Ogletree dished out 10 assists in the game.
Set 3: UC 25, CSU 18
- Two forceful kills by Roberson and a block by Hill and Nicholson gave the Bearcats a 6-2 lead early in the game.
- Ogletree rocketed her third service ace of the match to put her team ahead 12-9. A kill by Roberson extended to lead to 13-9 before the Buccaneers called a timeout.
- The Buccaneers scored three straight points to pull within 20-17 but the Bearcats scored five of the next six points to win 25-18 and go ahead 2-1 in the match.
Set 4: UC 25, CSU 23
- The Bearcats raced to a 3-0 lead but CSU worked to tie the score at 5-5 and took a 7-6 lead on a UC attacking error, forcing Alvey into her first timeout of the game.
- Kills by Nicholson and freshman Cortnee Bowser (Kent, Ohio/Theodore Roosevelt) re-tied the score at 12-12 and back-to-back service aces by Netisingha gave the Bearcats a 14-12 advantage.
- The score was tied at 22-22 when a block by Nicholson and Hill and a kill by Hill gave the Bearcats match point at 24-22.
- A point later, Nicholson ended the match with an emphatic solo block to give UC the win.

The Bearcats continue the UC Invitational with two matches on Saturday, Sept. 20. Cincinnati will face Central Michigan at 11:30 a.m., and will play Tennessee State at 7 p.m., both from Fifth Third Arena.
