COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati's high-flying offense posed problems for No. 20 Ohio State, but the Buckeyes were too much on Saturday night to pull out a 50-28 victory. Gunner Kiel completed 21 of 32 passes for 352 yards and four scores in a game of wild momentum swings before a stadium-record crowd of 108,362.
The Buckeyes (3-1) gave the Bearcats' (2-1) defense fits totaling 710 yards of offense, but their defense couldn't stop the Bearcats, who had wide-out Chris Moore catch three passes for 221 yards and three TDs.
Cincinnati fell behind 30-7 early in the second quarter, but Jeff Luc forced a fumble on the Buckeyes' ensuing possession to jump start UC.
The Bearcats' offense responded by driving down the field and scoring on a 19-yard pass from Kiel to Johnny Holton to make it 30-14.
UC's defense again stopped the Buckeyes offense, but they were pinned back against their own goal line. After getting a first down and generating some room for the offense, Kiel launched an 83-yard touchdown pass to Moore with 26 seconds remaining in the half.
The Buckeyes led 30-21 at the half, but neither coach Urban Meyer nor Cincinnati's Tommy Tuberville could have been happy in the locker room. Coming in, Tuberville was 2-0 against Meyer when both were bumping heads in the SEC, Tuberville at Auburn and Meyer at Florida.
Cincinnati's defense came out strong in the second half as they held OSU to back-to-back field goals, while Kiel and Moore connected for their third touchdown to make it 33-28 with 9:20 remaining in the third quarter.
Moore finished with three receptions for 221 yards and three touchdowns. His yardage total ranks third in UC history for a single game, and his touchdown total sits in a seven-way tie for the school record.
After that score, it was all Ohio State as they held the Bearcats scoreless the remainder of the game while adding 17 to their total for a final score of 50-28.
