Final Results The University of Cincinnati men's golf team took second place at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational after carding a final-round 2-over par 286 Tuesday at the Guyan Golf and Country Club (par 71; 6,573 yards) in Huntington, West Virginia. The Bearcats (4-over 293-277-286=856) finished five strokes behind team champion Youngstown State (1-under 284-281-286=851), who also posted a 286 on Tuesday. William & Mary (8-over 290-290-280=860) took third while Radford (9-over 284-297-280=861) finished fourth in the 15-team event. UC started the tournament tied for sixth after an opening-round 9-over 293 on Monday morning but jumped to second place after recording a 7-under 277 in the afternoon's second round. The Bearcats were unable to make up ground during Tuesday's final round of play. "It's hard to complain about finishing second," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "There are a lot of positives to take away from this event. However, we didn't manage the course very well overall. "We have to come ready to play every day," Martin added. "Our first-round play killed us. If we shoot a normal round then we probably win the tournament. That's the great thing about golf though, you have to go out and perform." // Another Top-5 Finish The result marks Cincinnati's 10th top-5 finish in its last 13 tournaments dating back to the start of the 2013-14 fall campaign - including each of its last six fall events. The Bearcats also have finished among the top 3 teams in eight tournaments since the start of last season. // Freshman Leads Bearcats Effort UC freshman Davis Baxter (Nolensville, Tenn./Ravenwood High School) registered his second consecutive below-par round on Tuesday, carding a 1-under 70 to tie two other players for third place at 2-under 72-69-70=211. Youngstown State's Dennis Holub (70-70-71=211) and Wake Forest's Dann Guise (70-70-71=211) also tied Baxter's tournament score. Jose Narro of Bowling Green State won medalist honors at 7-under 69-66-71=206 while Youngstown State's Bill Gaffney (4-under 67-71-71=209) took second place. "Davis handled the situation of playing in his first collegiate tournament very well," Martin said. "He is very strong mentally and stayed in the present tense throughout the tournament. He made a lot of pars and was very solid all week." // Other Bearcat Scores UC senior Baxter Reeves (Montgomery, Ala./Brewbaker Tech/Central Alabama CC) tied four other players for 10th place with an even par 71-71-71=213. It marked his fourth career top-10 result since transferring to Cincinnati prior to last year. UC sophomore Jared O'Kelley (Canton, Ga./Creekview High School) produced his best score of the tournament on Tuesday with an even-par 71 to tie three other players for 29th place (5-over 75-72-71=218). Seniors John Michael O'Toole (Pinson, Ala./Pinson Valley High School/Central Alabama CC) and Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome High School) each posted a 3-over 74 on Tuesday to tie five other players for 32nd place. O'Toole completed the event at 6-over 78-67-74=219 while Howard finished at 6-over 75-70-74=219. Sophomore Brennen Walsh (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder High School) played the tournament as an individual and tied for 39th place at 7-over 76-72-72=220. // Up Next The Bearcats next compete in the Memphis Intercollegiate at the Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tennessee, on Sept. 15-16.
