Oct. 6, 2014 Team Results | Individual Results CINCINNATI - Freshman Davis Baxter (Nolensville, Tenn./Ravenwood High School) carded a season-low 4-under par 68 and the University of Cincinnati men's golf team stands in first place at 1-over 289 following first-round action Monday at the Bearcat Invitational at Traditions Golf Club (par 72, 6,728 yards) in Hebron, Kentucky. The tournament was schedule for 36 holes of play on Monday but rain forced a three hour and five minute delay. Second-round play continues Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET. Weather permitting a third round will follow. Baxter is in second place in the individual standings, one stroke behind Belmont's Ashton Van Horne, who registered a 5-under 67. Baxter posted five birdies during the round, including three on the front nine, to go with a bogey and 12 par scores in posting his career-best single-round total. It marks his fourth sub-par round of the fall season. "Davis continues to flourish," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "He's playing really solid golf right now. He is thinking very well and managing the course very well. When you do those things, it's hard not to play well." // Other UC Player Results Two other Bearcats are listed among the top 10 in the player standings. Senior Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome High School) is fifth at 1-under John Michael O'Toole (Pinson, Ala./Pinson Valley High School/Central Alabama CC) is tied for 41st at 5-over 77. Junior Emerson Newsome (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek High School) is tied for 50th at 6-over 78. // Team Standings The Bearcats sit atop the team standings of the 14-team tournament three strokes ahead of Eastern Kentucky (4-over 292) and six strokes ahead of Belmont (7-over 295). "I'm pleased with the team score," Martin said. "We are still searching for four good scores to complete a round. Once we get a fourth score we're going to post better team scores. When we get a fifth score, we've got a chance to be really good." // Unattached Bearcat Scorers Six other Bearcats are playing unattached from the team score. Sophomore Brennen Walsh (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder High School) is tied for eighth at 1-over 73. Freshman Scot Sapp (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington High School) is tied for 41st at 5-over 77. Sophomore Jared O'Kelley (Canton, Ga./Creekview High School) is tied for 50th place at 6-over 78. Freshman Christian Vining (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) is tied for 63rd place at 8-over 80. Sophomore Chad Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome High School) is tied for 72nd at 10-over 82. Senior Michael Wolf (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller High School) is 80th at 91. "Going into Tuesday, everyone has already played six holes (of the second round)," Martin said. "We need to come out and attack the course. It's uncertain how many holes we're going to be able to play tomorrow because of the forecast. Every shot on every hole will be important." Live scoring is not available for the Bearcat Invitational.
