CINCINNATI - Five goals propelled the University of Cincinnati men's soccer team to a 5-1 victory over American Athletic Conference foe Temple on a rainy Saturday night at Gettler Stadium.
Ashani Walker (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College) scored twice to pace the Bearcats, while Emmanuel Appiah (Westerville, Ohio/Summit Country Day), Alan Rovira (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley) and Stefan Bangsund (Kent, Wash./Kentwood/Highline College) all got in on the scoring act, as well. John Manga (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) and Alejandro Garcia (Coral Springs, Fla./Taravella/Darton State) each had a pair of assists in the win.
// Five Goal Outburst
The Bearcats had their second five-goal outburst of the season. Cincinnati scored a 5-0 decision over IPFW on Sept. 17. Prior to that, the last time UC netted five goals in one match was a 2009 contest with Canisius. That year was also the last time the Bearcats had two matches with five goals in the same season. Just before the Canisius win, UC netted a 5-2 decision at Dayton in the season opener.
// Double the Walker
With a pair of goals in the match, it was the first career multi-goal game for Walker. The junior has scored in two of the last three matches and now has 10 career goals. He did have a multi-point game last season at SIU Edwardsville when he assisted on UC's first goal and then scored the match-winner in extra time.
// Bangsund and Appiah Strike First
Bangsund and Appiah both scored their first goal of the season. For Bangsund, it was his first as a Bearcat. For Appiah, it marked his first goal since scoring one goal as a freshman in 2011 versus Virginia Tech.
