Men's Results | Women's Results | Burroughs Interview
The University of Cincinnati men's cross country team impressed at the American Cross Country Championships on Friday morning as they garnered a runner-up finish for the second consecutive year. The women's team finished 10th.
Senior Kevin Fink paced the Bearcats in the 8k race as he ran with the lead pack for the whole race and pulled out a fifth-place finish in a time of 24:55. The Tipp City, Ohio native's finish earned him All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season.
"It was a big day for us, and a couple guys really stepped up," said associate head coach Sam Burroughs. "It's great to be the runner-up in back-to-back years and always fun bringing home some hardware."
Fink's finish guided the Bearcats to their second consecutive runner-up finish with a team total of 84 points, which edged Houston by nine points. Tulsa won the team competition with a score of 21.
Greg Sanders and Jacob Franklin were the next two UC runners to cross the finish as they came in 17th and 18th, just a few places from also earning All-Conference. Freshman Dan Huben and sophomore Anthony Car rounded out Cincinnati's five scorers with finishing 20th and 24th overall.
Seniors Ashley Earman and Lauren Goodwin led the way for the women's squad as they finished 34th and 35th.
The Bearcats now set their sights on the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals in Madison, Wisconsin on Nov. 14. The race will remain a 6k for the women, but the men will bump up to a 10k.
