Louisville Recap

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --
Jackie Keire and Ryan DePietro combined for three individual wins on Saturday morning at Louisville as the University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams competed against the nationally ranked Cardinals.

"Overall it was a good meet," said head coach Mandy Commons-DiSalle. "We did a good job of staying competitive in races through the end of the meet. It was really good for us to compete in the morning and simulate a preliminary session, especially just about a month away from our December invitational (at Miami University). Today got our team in the mindset to compete hard early in the day."

The men dropped the meet to No. 9 Louisville, 210.5-87.5, while the women fell to the No. 13 Cardinals, 204-94. It was the third competition in as many weeks for the Bearcats, who competed at Ohio State last weekend and swept crosstown rival Xavier two weeks ago.

// Keire Still Strong at Ralph Wright
Keire (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) had a solid performance in the same pool she won a pair of American Athletic Conference individual championships last season. The sophomore won the 200 freestyle in 1:49.93, besting Louisville's Tanja Kylliainen by less than a second. Keire completed the 100 freestyle in 51.08 to earn her second win, topping the Cardinals' Rachel Grooms by less than half of a second. Those are the same two events Keire won league titles in last season at Louisville.

On Saturday, Keire also had a runner-up finish in the 50 freestyle, with her time of 23.78 just behind UofL's Kelsi Worrell, who finished in 23.06.

// DePietro Continues Fast Start
DePietro (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) continued a strong start to his rookie campaign as the only Bearcats male to earn an victory. The freshman took home first-place points in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:53.24. He needed every second in a tight race, as Louisville's Rudy Edelen finished just behind DePietro in 1:53.34.

It was the fourth victory in three meets this season for DePietro. He took a pair of events in the season-opener at Xavier (200 butterfly, 200 medley) before edging his brother, Chris, to take the 200 medley last week at Ohio State.

// Up Next
The Bearcats have their first weekend off next weekend before traveling to Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 15. The trip to Ypsilanti, Michigan, will be a homecoming for assistant coach Matt Ense, who was a five-time Mid-American Conference champion for the Eagles.

"Now we go back to work and fine-tune some things before we head into our last dual meet (of the winter) at EMU," Commons-DiSalle concluded.
