CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team will take on five NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago as part of its 17-game schedule in 2015. Head coach Gina Oliver announced the slate for her third season at the helm of the program on Thursday.
"We're really excited about our schedule for the 2015 season," said Oliver. "Our main focus is to compete in the BIG EAST. Looking at our non-conference, it definitely prepares us to do just that."
The schedule opens with consecutive games against programs which received NCAA bids last season. The lid-lifter will be on Friday, Feb. 13, when Notre Dame visits Cincinnati, followed by a trip to Louisville on Sunday, Feb. 15. Both the Irish and Cardinals reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2014.
The Louisville contest opens a three-match road swing for UC, which then visits Detroit on Friday, Feb. 20, and Robert Morris on Sunday, Feb. 22. The Bearcats close out February by returning home for a Friday, Feb. 27, game versus Niagara.
March opens with visits from Stetson (Wednesday, March 4) and Presbyterian (Sunday, March 8). The Hatters and Blue Hose will also play each other in a neutral game in Cincinnati on Friday, March 6.
The Bearcats then travel south to play at Coastal Carolina on Sunday, March 15, before hosting three-straight home games. Oliver's alma mater and 2014 NCAA Tournament team, Ohio State, visits on Wednesday, March 18, followed by Winthrop on Friday, March 27, to wrap-up non-conference play. UConn visits to start the BIG EAST schedule on Sunday, March 29.
April kicks-off with a trip to Villanova on Saturday, April 4, with league newcomer Vanderbilt visiting Clifton on Wednesday, April. 8. Consecutive road games against 2014 NCAA teams will take UC to Georgetown on Saturday, April 11, and Florida, the other new addition to the BIG EAST, on Wednesday, April 15.
Cincinnati concludes the schedule with a pair of home games. Temple visits on Sunday, April 19, before the regular season concludes with a visit from Marquette on Saturday, April 25. The 2015 BIG EAST Championship, with the league's top four teams qualifying, will be held April 30 and May 2 in Storrs, Connecticut.
