PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Cincinnati garnered its eighth win of the season as they defeated Temple, 14-6, Saturday afternoon in an old-fashioned, defensive battle.

After being shutout and falling behind 3-0 in the first quarter, the Bearcats (8-3, 6-1 American) rattled off 14 points to take an 11-point lead into halftime.

Cincinnati's defense was partially responsible for the first UC touchdown as Jeff Luc forced his sixth fumble of the season, which was recovered by Leviticus Payne at Temple's three-yard line. A fade pass to the corner of the end zone from Gunner Kiel to Mekale McKay put UC up 7-3 with 12:39 remaining in the half.

The Bearcats found the end zone again with 28 seconds remaining in the first half as Mike Boone rumbled across the goal line for his sixth rushing touchdown in as many games.

Despite having momentum heading into the second half, Cincinnati was unable to get the offense going again as the Owls held them scoreless the remainder of the game. Luckily for the Bearcats, its defense was stout and surrendered just a field goal the remainder of the game.

Senior linebacker Nick Temple played big for UC as he led the team with 13 tackles including a pair of sacks, which matches a career-high.

The Bearcats punting game also played a big role in the game as it kept Temple back against their own end zone with their drives starting on average at the 25. Sam Geraci accounted for four of Cincinnati's five punts downed inside the 20 with Kiel placing the other.

Cincinnati returns to Paul Brown Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 6 to close out their 2014 regular-season schedule against Houston. UC will honor 21 seniors prior to the noon ET kickoff. With a win over the Cougars, UC will claim at least a share of the American Athletic Conference Championship.
