BERKELEY, Calif. - Despite a career-best 22 points from freshman point guard Ana Owens, the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team suffered a 79-54 loss to San Jose State Saturday evening in the consolation game of the Cal Classic.

// THE SHORT STORY:
The San Jose State offense pushed the tempo the entire way during the 79-54 loss. The Spartans recorded 17 fast-break points in the contest and converted 24 Cincinnati turnovers into 25 points. San Jose State shot 45.5 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from three point-range. Freshman Ana Owens was one of six players from the four teams named to the All-Tournament Team.

- After UC opened the game with the first five points, San Jose State put together a 20-5 run over a six minute and eight second span that gave them a 20-10 edge. The Spartans hit four three's during the spurt.
- UC was able to cut the San Jose State lead to six (33-27) thanks to a 13-4 advantage over 2:29. Ana Owens added eight points on a pair of three's and a jumper during the run.
- After trailing 10 at the half, UC was able to cut the lead down to 45-42 over the first three minutes and 16 seconds thanks to an 8-1 scoring edge. Brandey Tarver, Marley Hill and Ana Owens all added scores during the spree.
- From that point, San Jose State scored the next 10 points to make it a 55-42 lead. The Spartans later used an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach, making the score 69-47 with just under six minutes to play.

- Cincinnati's 24 turnovers are a season high and are the most for the Bearcats in a game since facing No.1 UConn on Feb. 1, 2014.
- Cincinnati lost the rebounding battle 39-38, being out-rebounded in the last four contests, all loses. In two of those contests, the Bearcats were out-rebounded by just one.
// INDIVIDUAL NOTES:
- Ana Owens tallied the first 20-plus scoring game of her career with 22 points against the Spartans. She now has double digit points in three of her five career games and has hit at least one three in each game.
- Jasmine Whitfield was the only other Bearcat to reach double digits in the game with 10 points. She now has at least 10 points in four of five games and has reached double digits in scoring nine times in her career.
- Brandey Tarver followed up her career night of 12 points against Creighton with eight against San Jose State, giving her a double-digit scoring average for the tournament (10 ppg.)
- Makenzie Cann extended her streak of made three-pointers in a game to five after connecting on one against San Jose State. The freshman is now 11-of-22 from deep range this year.
