OXFORD, Ohio -- Two wins from Jackie Keire and a men's relay victory have the University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving teams in solid shape after day one at the RedHawk Invitational in Oxford, Ohio. The men stand in second place with 516 points, while the women are positioned in third with 411 points.
// DOUBLE WINS FOR KEIRE
Keire (Burlington, Ont./Nelson) picked up her first victory of the day in the 500 freestyle. After posting the quickest preliminary time (4:50.99) in the afternoon, she shaved roughly four seconds off that mark in the final to finish in 4:46.27, winning by over five seconds.
The sophomore followed up the performance with more first-place points in the 50 freestyle. Again swimming the fastest preliminary time (22.98), Keire also went faster in the finals, touching in 22.94.
// MEN TAKE 200 FREE RELAY
The Bearcats men started off strong by taking first-place points in the 200 freestyle relay. Eitan Holder (Caracas, Venezuela/Aviv (Israel)) led off the relay squad, followed by Ryan Charbonneau (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and Connor Davis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) before Dean Waite (Valrico, Fla./Bloomingdale) swam the anchor leg. UC finished in 1:21.99 to edge Denison.
// HOLDER HAS STRONG DAY
In addition to helping secure a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, Holder found himself in a pair of A-finals in the evening session. Holder swam a 4:30.46 prelim time in the 500 freestyle before placing second in the finals with a time of 4:26.56. He was edged out by Emory's Christian Baker by two-tenths of a second. Holder later used a 20.88 time in the 50 freestyle preliminary on his way to a fourth-place finish in the event with a finals time of 20.64.
