CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's basketball team dropped a 68-47 decision to VCU on Saturday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena.

The Bearcats were led by junior Octavius Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Trinity Valley College) who had 12 points and seven rebounds. Senior Jermaine Sanders (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Rice), junior Farad Cobb (West Palm Beach, Fla./NW Florida St. College) and redshirt freshman Deshaun Morman (Richmond, Va./Faith Baptist Christian) all contributed seven points off the bench for Cincinnati.

VCU (8-3) lived behind the arc, making 15 three-point baskets on the day, tying a season-high for the Rams. It also marked the most three pointers Cincinnati (7-3) has allowed this season.

Four Rams scored in double figures led by Melvin Johnson's 18 points. Johnson and Treveon Graham each hit four three-pointers in the contest. Graham finished with 12 points and six assists. Jrodan Burgess added 11 points and a trio of threes for the Rams.

The loss snapped a 16-game winning streak for UC in regular-season nonconference home games. UC was last defeated by a nonconference opponent in Fifth Third Arena on Dec. 27, 2012, when it fell to New Mexico, 55-54. The Bearcats are 68-10 in nonconference home games during the Cronin era.

UC associate head coach Larry Davis led the team from the bench during the game. Cincinnati head coach Mick Cronin did not coach the game for precautionary health concerns (STORY- Cronin to Miss VCU Game).

The Bearcats will look to bounce back against Wagner on Tuesday, Dec. 23. The game tips at 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on FOX Sports Ohio and 700 WLW. The contest is also available on ESPN3 for fans outside the local viewing area.
