CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati basketball team used a strong defensive effort - including a season-high 12 blocks - and balanced scoring to down Wagner 72-48 on Tuesday night in Fifth Third Arena.

Four Bearcats scored in double figures for Cincinnati (8-3), including sophomore Kevin Johnson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day), who had a team-high 11 points with four steals. Freshman Quadri Moore (Linden, N.J./Linden), junior Octavius Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Trinity Valley College)and redshirt junior Shaq Thomas (Paterson, N.J./NIA Prep School) each chipped in 10 points.

Three Wagner (2-8) players totaled eight points each in the game, including Japhet Kadji, Jojo Cooper and Romone Saunders.

Ellis led UC with three blocks on the night, while Moore and fellow freshman Gary Clark (Clayton, N.C./Clayton) each recorded two. UC's 12 blocks were the most since the Bearcats recorded a dozen against Marquette on Jan. 19, 2013.

Defensively, the Bearcats (8-3) stood strong, limiting the Seahawks to 29.8 percent shooting from the floor, including 17.2 percent (5 of 29) in the first half. Cincinnati shot at a 53.3 percent clip for the game.

UC held Wagner without a field goal for 7:26 during the first half en route to a 32-19 halftime lead.

Sophomore Rob Blissitt, Jr., made his basketball debut for the Bearcats in the closing minutes of the game and sank a three-pointer for his first collegiate points. Blissitt, Jr., was a member of the UC baseball team during his freshman year.
