LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team put together a late run against UCLA put came up just short, falling by a 66-58 final score Tuesday night.

// THE SHORT STORY:
Rebounds and free throws provided the difference for the Bruins in the non-conference contest with UCLA holding a 57-30 edge on the boards including a 21-5 advantage on offensive rebounds. The Bruins converted the opportunities to 17 second-chance points compared to just three for UC. Cincinnati also shot just 60.9 percent from the free throw line, hitting 14 of 23 chances. Freshman Ana Owens recorded the first double-double of her career with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

- UCLA pushed their lead to double digits for the first time thanks to a 6-0 spurt that made it a 22-11 edge for the Bruins with 7:23 left in the first half.
- Cincinnati cut into the lead before the break thanks to a quick 5-0 spurt over a minute and 12 seconds. Whitfield hit a pair of free throws while Owens hit a three to make the score 28-23. The Bruins added one jumper before the half to account for the 30-23 score.
- The Bruins opened up the second half with one free throw before the Bearcats rattled off a 6-0 run over one minute and 20 seconds. The spurt was sparked by a pair of steals from Chelsea Jamison.
