CINCINNATI - In celebration of the start of the 2015 season, the University of Cincinnati baseball program will host its fifth annual First Pitch Reception on Friday, Feb. 6, at the P&G Cincinnati MLB Urban Youth Academy. Famed Cincinnati Reds broadcaster and National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Famer Marty Brennaman will be the special guest speaker at the event.
Attendees at the First Pitch Reception will get a preview of the 2015 baseball team, including a chance to meet and talk with second year head coach Ty Neal. UC director of athletics Mike Bohn also will be in attendance.
The event is scheduled from 6:30-8:30 with the program beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $45 per person which includes heavy appetizers and drink tickets.
The First Pitch Reception is open to the public, but all reservations must be made by Monday, Feb. 2. The event has sold out the past three years and guests are encouraged to buy their tickets as soon as possible. Neal is back at the helm after a first season that saw the Bearcats win the sixth annual Joe Nuxhall Classic. He returns eight starters and will add a talented 24-player freshman class to the mix for 2015.
Leading the way for the Bearcats will be junior outfielder Ian Happ (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) who was named the 2015 American Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year and has picked up a pair of preseason All-America nods.
The Bearcats will begin the season in Starkville, Mississippi, on Feb. 13, with a doubleheader against Miami (Ohio) and No. 20 Mississippi State.
