Bearcats Open up Kentucky Invitational

The University of Cincinnati track & field programs opened up the Kentucky Invitational on Friday night with the weight throw and distance medley relay.

In the men's weight throw, Josh Province was the Bearcats leader with a toss of 54' 10.25" to claim ninth. Macklin Tudor slipped in at 10th with a hurl of 53' 3.75".

The men capped off the opening day with the distance medley relay, where they finished fifth in a time of 10:21.55. The quartet was comprised of Brian Barney, Jaashir Morris, Jarrod Hart and Dan Huben.

The women's side only had competitors in the weight throw with Monica Phillips heading the charge. The junior tossed a season best 56' 5.25" to earn ninth. Frida Akerstrom, who is the American Athletic Conference's defending Female Athlete of the Week, came in 10th with a throw of 54' 3.75". Annette Echikunwoke and Mekayla Breland were the only other Bearcats to throw over 50 feet in the event.

The Kentucky Invitational continues tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. with field events and then noon for running events.
