CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team began its 2015 season on Friday afternoon with its first official practice.
Head coach Ty Neal and his staff gathered with the team at Marge Schott Stadium to conduct an intrasquad scrimmage on the newly renovated turf playing surface.
"This group has been working hard since August in the classroom, weight room and during practice" Neal said. "The first practice means we can start to smell the start of baseball season."
The team had been participating in workouts and skill instruction sessions since the semester started on Jan. 12, but due to NCAA regulations, was not allowed to begin official practices until today. Between now and the start of the season, teams may practice up to 4 hours a day and 20 hours a week with one required off-day each week.
The season kicks off for the Bearcats in three weeks when they travel to Starkville, Mississippi, for a Feb. 13, doubleheader against Miami (Ohio) and No. 20 Mississippi State.
