CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team dropped their season opener to No. 52 Indiana University by a score of 5-2 at the Western Tennis & Fitness Club.

// DOUBLES NO. 1 | Bellinger/Poggensee-Wei (UC) def. Schmider/Kauss (IU) 6-3
The duo of Lauren Bellinger (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) and Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) set the tone for the Bearcats early with their doubles win. With the match tied at three, UC went on to win the next three points to give the Bearcats their only doubles victory for the day by a score of 6-3.

The second court featured a close battle as Katya Bure (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) and Ali Miller (Portsmouth, Ohio/Portsmouth) lost in the tiebreaker 7-6 (3).



// DOUBLES NO. 3 | Sarah Baron/Klyczek (IU) def. Wille/Natalia Abdalla (UC) 6-1
Natalia Abdalla (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Augusto Laranja) and Hannah Wille (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway Central) lost their doubles match by a score of 6-1.

// SINGLES NO. 1 | Katie Klyczek (IU) def. Kelly Poggensee (UC) 7-5, 6-3
- Katie Klyczek of the Hoosiers held a one point lead in the first match throughout the first five games. But Poggensee-Wei took the lead at 4-3 and then 5-4. However, Klyczek countered with her own comeback to win the first set 7-5.
- Poggensee-Wei opened up the second set with a 1-0 lead. Klyczek won six of the next eight games to earn a 6-3 win.

// SINGLES NO. 2 | Alecia Kauss (IU) def. Katya Bure (CIN) 6-3, 6-1
- Bure started with a 2-1 lead in the first set but would see it disappear as Alecia Kauss closed the first set winning five of the next six games.
- Kauss begin the second set with a 1-0 lead before duplicating her first set by winning the next five of six games to win by a margin of 6-1.

Lauren Bellinger (UC) def. Paula Gutierrez (IU) 6-4, 6-1
- Bellinger jumped out to a 2-1 lead, before winning the first set by a score of 6-4 over Paula Gutierrez.
- Bellinger was in total control in the second set, winning by a score of 6-1 and giving the Bearcats their first point of the match.

// SINGLES NO. 4 | Ali Miller (UC) def. Kim Schmider (IU) 7-6 (4), 2-6, 1-0 (7)
- Ali Miller and Kim Schmider of the Hoosiers had a back-and-forth match on court No. 4. Miller held a one-point edge through early but Schmider rallied late to go ahead 6-5. Miller responded, knotting it at six before winning the tie breaker and earning the first set by a score of 7-6.
- Schmider controlled most of the second set, winning 6-2 to force a third game to split the tiebreaker.
- Miller's momentum carried into the third-set tiebreaker where she won 10-7, giving the Bearcats their second point the match and Miller her first collegiate dual win.

// SINGLES NO. 5 | Sarah Baron (IU) def. Hannah Wille (UC) 6-3, 6-4
- Hannah Wille would start off strong during her first set, leading Sarah Baron by a score of 3-0. But Baron rallied to win six straight games en route to a 6-3 win.
- Baron carried the momentum into the second, earning a 6-4 win.

// SINGLES NO. 6 | Mary Beth King (IU) def. Samantha Perry (UC) 7-6 (3), 6-1
- Samantha Perry (Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) held serve the majority of the first set, building to a 5-2 lead. Mary Beth King of the Hoosiers rallied from three points down to tie it up at six and force a tiebreaker for the first set. King would close out the tiebreaker by a 10-3 score, earning the first point of the set.
- King followed up, winning the second set 6-1.

Cincinnati will look to bounce back on Sunday, Feb. 1, when they host Butler at 3 p.m. at the Western Tennis & Fitness Club.
