Men's 800 Free Relay Podiums to Open American Championships

American Champs - Day One Recap

The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams earned one podium finish during a light opening day of action at the 2015 American Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Swimming action saw the men's and women's 800 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay compete, as well as diving competition on the men's three-meter and women's one-meter boards.

// MEN FINISH THIRD IN 800 FREE RELAY

The top finish of the day for the Bearcats came in the men's 800 freestyle relay, which opened swimming action for the week. Eitan Holder led off for UC, followed by Connor Davis and Dean Waite while Hunter Pasek swam the anchor leg. Cincinnati clocked in at 6:36.51. East Carolina took first-place points in the event, finishing in 6:30.55.

// OTHER EVENTS

The women's squad placed fifth in the 800 free relay, clocking in at 7:26.64. The women matched that finish in the 200 medley relay, placing fifth with a time of 1:43.52.

The men concluded the day's competition in the 200 medley relay with a fourth-place finish, clocking in at 1:32.83.

// BEARCATS ON THE BOARD

Bill Magill was the top finisher for the UC men on the three-meter board. He posted a 208.50 score in the preliminary round before posting a mark of 107 in the finals to place 13th.

Lindsey Miller and Amanda Coffey placed 16th and 17th, respectively, on the one-meter board.

// DAY TWO ACTION

The meet gets into full swing on Thursday, Feb. 19. Competition will include the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and 200 yard freestyle relay. Diving competition will take place for the men on the one-meter board. Cincinnati's Jackie Keire is the defending conference champion in the 500 freestyle and the sophomore enters this year's meet with the top seeded time.

Swimming preliminaries begin at the Greensboro Aquatic Center at 10 a.m. ET, followed by diving preliminaries at 12:30 p.m. Finals action begins at 6 p.m. and can be seen on the American Digital Network.
