Field Events Thrive to Open Akron Invitational

A small University of Cincinnati track & field squad opened the Akron Invitational with season best marks on Friday night in Akron, Ohio.

Freshman Rebecka Abrahamsson had the Bearcats' top performance as she took first in the women's Blue long jump competition. The Swedish jumper leapt 18' 7.25" to win the event, and she now sits eighth in the UC history with that mark. Abrahamsson also moved up to eighth in the American Athletic Conference's seeding for the women's long jump.

In the men's Blue pole vault, Cody Curry also posted his top mark of the season as he cleared 15' 7" to earn third overall. His mark slips him into eighth on the conference chart.

In an untraditional indoor event, Alexis Gray took fifth in the Gold indoor discus throw. The freshman hurled the discus 142-feet event.

Another small group of Bearcats will continue competition at the Akron Invitational tomorrow with running events starting at 9 a.m. and field events beginning at 11 a.m.
