"This is the most difficult course we have played to this point in the year," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "It requires players to have solid ball striking throughout the round and Baxter and Jared were able to do that most of the day."
As a team, the Bearcats are ninth in the 15-team field at 18-over 298-296=594. NC State leads the event after carding a 5-under 288-283=571. Eleven of the 15 teams competing are listed in national polls by Golf Week Magazine and GolfStat.
Other Bearcats competing, including senior John Michael O'Toole (Pinson, Ala./Pinson Valley High School/Central Alabama CC), freshman Davis Baxter (Nolensville, Tenn./Ravenwood High School) and senior Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome High School). O'Toole is tied for 60th at 78-75=153. Baxter is tied for 63rd after a 76-79=155. Howard is tied for 73rd at 73-84=157.
"We did some really good things today," Martin said. "We had two triple bogeys and two double bogeys and if we could erase those we'd be in third place. When you play in tournament with a challenging field on a difficult course you can't have an unforced errors and we had too many of those today."
The Bearcats tee off in final-round action on Tuesday at 9 a.m. ET. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
