University of Cincinnati track & field standout Erika Hurd claimed fifth in the women's high jump at the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships on Sunday afternoon in Boston, Massachusetts.

Just one day after winning her second consecutive American Athletic Conference indoor high jump title, Hurd traveled to Boston to compete at the USATF Championships against the best high jumpers in the United States, including U.S. Olympians Amy Acuff and Chaunte Lowe. The junior from Manchester, Maryland narrowly made the podium by clearing 5' 10.5", but due to her failed attempts at a previous height, she claimed fifth overall. Hurd was one of two collegiate high jumpers in the competition and was the top collegiate finisher.

Chaunte Lowe, who holds the American indoor and outdoor record for the women's high jump, won the event with a jump of 6' 2".

Hurd now sets her sights on the NCAA Indoor Championships on Mar. 13-14 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The junior heads to the national meet tied for fifth in the country with a mark of 6' 1.25".

The Bearcats also hope to get freshman Adrian Valles into the national meet in men's pole vault. Valles currently sits tied for 13th, and the NCAA takes just 16 competitors in each event. The field of NCAA qualifiers will be announced tomorrow afternoon.
