Pole Vault Results| High Jump Results
The University of Cincinnati had two track & field athletes earn All-America honors Friday night at the NCAA Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Adrian Valles garnered first-team honors in the men's pole vault, while Erika Hurd earned second-team accolades in the women's high jump.
Valles, who was one of two freshmen to qualify in the men's pole vault, cleared 17' 10.5" to garner sixth place at the national meet. The Pamplona, Spain, native cleared the height on his third attempt after soaring over 17'4.5" and 17' 8.5" on first attempts. He is the top finishing freshman and had four juniors and one senior finish ahead of him.
Valles' sixth-place finish is the highest place for a UC male student-athlete at an NCAA Championship since David Payne took sixth in 2004 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 100-meter hurdles. For the indoor nationals, he received the highest finish since Al Lanier took second in the long jump at the 1973 championships.
Hurd finished tied for 15th in the women's high jump as she cleared 5' 8" and earned second-team honors. She is the first UC female student-athlete to earn second-team honors since Mackenzie Fields finished 10th in the women's pole vault.
Valles, Hurd and the rest of the Bearcats jump right back into competition as they head to the UCF Black & Gold Challenge March 21 in Orlando, Florida.
