CINCINNATI - Doug Rosfeld, a former standout University of Cincinnati football student-athlete, was named as the program's director of player development, Head Coach Tommy Tuberville announced.
"I am excited to be the first to welcome Doug home to UC," Tuberville said. "He's someone I've gotten to know well, first from working our camps and later through this process. I can say without reservation that Doug epitomizes a true Bearcat. He was a great student in the classroom, a great player on the field and he's become a great family man and educator since he graduated. I look forward to seeing the successes our student-athletes are able to achieve with Doug's guidance."
In his role at UC, Rosfeld will work directly with UC's student-athletes, providing mentoring and ensuring they are adhering to the program goals and policies regarding intellectual, social, leadership, physical, and skill development. He will also help manage many of UC's off-the-field initiatives including the Bearcats' community service efforts.
"It's a special kind of blessing to leave home and come home in the same move," Rosfeld said. "I am so thankful to Mike Bohn and Coach Tuberville for the opportunity to work with the Bearcats. As a husband, father, educator and small business owner, I feel qualified to help train our student-athletes with the skills they will need to be successful after they graduate and I will work my hardest to serve the University as the player's advocate."
Rosfeld joins the Bearcats staff after teaching social studies for nine years at Archbishop Moeller HS in Cincinnati. He also served as the Crusaders head rugby coach from 2009-14, helping found the program, lead it to four straight state championship appearances and a State Championship win in 2010. Rosfeld has also been an assistant with the Moeller football program since 2005, serving as the offensive line coach, overseeing pass protection, the run game and assisting on special teams.
He was a stalwart at center for UC, starting the final 34 games of his career. Named first team All-Conference-USA selection following junior and senior seasons and was tabbed as a third team preseason All-America choice by Athlon Sports and an honorable mention preseason All-America selection by The Sporting News prior to senior campaign. He played on two bowl teams, and led a young offensive line during his junior season that led the nation and established a school record by allowing only eight sacks all season.
Rosfeld, a two-time winner of the John Pease Outstanding Lineman Award, was signed by the Cleveland Browns as a free agent following the 2001 NFL Draft.
A native of Cincinnati, Rosfeld attended Archbishop Moeller HS and earned bachelor's degrees in education (2001) and history (2002) as well as a master's degree in secondary education (2005) from UC. He is a member of the Sigma Sigma honorary fraternity.
He was a graduate assistant in the athletics marketing office while an undergrad in 2001 and served on the C-Club board from 2002-05. His brother Steve is a senior director of development for UC's Carl H. Lindner College of Business.
Rosfeld and his wife Abbie, a 2006 UC graduate, have five children, Will, Emma, Adele, Patch and Hope.
The Bearcats started spring football on Feb. 27, 2015 with the 15-practice session closing out on April 4. UC will hold its spring game on Saturday, April 4 at 11:30 a.m. ET inside the Sheakley Athletics Center.
